Acclaimed
authors Kat Meads and Lynne Barrett will discuss their work and read
from their newest books at Little River Inn's Abalone Room, in an event
cosponsored by the Inn, the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference, and
Gallery Bookshop.
An award-winning writer of fiction, drama, nonfiction and poetry, Kat Meads is a native of eastern North Carolina. Narrated in part by a ghost, her new book, When the Dust Finally Settles, is a novel focused on land, loyalty, and Southern racial politics in 1968.
Lynne Barrett's latest book, Magpies,
presents eight stories featuring collectors of vintage ephemera,
underemployed women, and murderers, among others. It was called "one of
the year's finer university press offerings" by Publisher's Weekly. She
has received the Edgar Allan Poe Award for best mystery story from the
Mystery Writers of America and fellowships from the Florida Division of
Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Both
women have been popular presenters at the Mendocino Coast Writers
Conference, and a portion of book sales from the event will benefit the
MCWC.
